Club History

History in brief

We are an amalgum of the Plympton High Old Scholars (PHOS) Football Club, the Greek Camden Football club, Camden Football club and Novar Gardens Football club.
We are a proud and successful club having won numerous premierships in various football associations.
The club has an impressive list of state and association representatives as well as association best and fairest medal winners.
We have come a long way since the Novar Gardens Football Club was formed in 1929 in the Glenelg South West Football League.
In 1933 the club was renamed the Camden Football Club and performed successfully in that league, later to become the Glenelg South Football League.

Plympton High Old Scholars (PHOS) Football Club was established in 1971 by a group of old scholars who had successfully played together at school. Entering the South Australian Amateur Football league (SAAFL) in A5 grade, they regularly won premierships to rise through the grades. Many of these foundation members continue to be active in the club today.

Meanwhile, when the Glenelg South Football League dissolved in 1987, Camden amalgamated with the Greek Football Club beginning a very successful era in Division 1 of the SAAFL being premiers in 1988, 1990 and 1991. That association came to an abrupt end in 1994 creating an opportunity for PHOS Camden (The Phantoms) Football Club to be formed. We immediately rose through the ranks from A3 to A2 and then to Division 1, being runner up in 1997 and winning the 2000 premiership.

At the start of the 2002 season our future seems bright with 3 senior teams and over 160 juniors competing each week in U17, U15, U13, U11, U9 and Grasshoppers.
The Phantoms also have an over 35s team for those in the twilight of their careers.

"In the not too distant future we will endevour to have the honor boards for all previous facets of the club, … watch this space!"
